January 2009 saw the completion of a three week project to replace all the ditches around the green with concrete troughs. The work was carried out by Mark & Steve of Active Leisure Contracts, based at Gravesend Kent. The project cost £21,000 which was financed by a £10,000 grant from Awards for All, a £3.000 loan from Bowls England and the remainder from the Club funds. The project started by removing all the old wooden boards and 2 foot of grass from the edge of the green. The new purpose made concrete troughs were laid on a gravel bed. Once installed, the concrete was line with artificial grass to protect the bowls and provide a pleasant finish. New turf was laid to finish the green edge. The first game to be played was an invitation game, opened by the Town Mayor, Councillor Tony Hillier who sponsored our grant claim. More pictures
